Thermal Monoculars

Are thermal imaging monoculars legal in Australia?  Yes they are!

Thermal imaging monoculars are legal to own and use in Australia. However certain states do not allow the usage of thermal or night vision equipment when hunting in state forests such as New South Wales. Please ensure to check in your local jurisdiction.

What is a Thermal Monocular?

It is a digital infrared camera built into a case designed to be hand held for night time (and daytime) use just like an optical monocular, or more commonly, daytime optical binoculars.  Although it does not operate the same way as typical daytime optics due to an image being created on a display screen from thermal radiation being detected by a sensor.
