Thermal Attachments (Clip-Ons)
Are thermal imaging Clip-Ons legal in Australia? Yes they are!
Thermal imaging Clip-Ons are legal to own and use in Australia. However certain states do not allow the usage of thermal or night vision equipment when hunting in state forests such as New South Wales. Please ensure to check in your local jurisdiction.
What is a Thermal Attachment (Clip-On)?
It is a digital infrared camera built into a case designed to be attached to the forend of your optical scope for night time (and daytime) use, similar to a thermal scope, this device allows you to add the thermal functionality without having to remove your scope like you would for a dedicated thermal sight. Although it does not operate the same way as typical daytime optics due to an image being created on a display screen from thermal radiation being detected by a sensor.
Why would I use a Thermal Attachment (Clip-On)?
Advantages for using a thermal Clip-On are the ability to exchange it between varying sized optical scopes with the use of an adapter. You can now turn any daytime hunting setup into a nightime thermal hunting setup.
