Thermal Sights

Are thermal imaging sights legal in Australia?  Yes they are!

Thermal imaging scopes are legal to own and use in Australia. However certain states do not allow the usage of thermal or night vision equipment when hunting in state forests such as New South Wales. Please ensure to check in your local jurisdiction.

What is a Thermal Sight?

It is a digital infrared camera built into a case designed to be mounted on your rifle for night time (and daytime) use instead of your typical optical scope.  Also known as a Thermal Scope - Although it does not operate the same way, due to an image being created on a screen from thermal radiation being detected by a sensor.
